Role overview: We are looking for a highly technical, hands-on Cloud Architect to support a multi-cloud engineering and migration programme across Azure and GCP.
This is not a governance-only architecture position. The successful candidate will combine cloud architecture responsibilities with practical engineering, development and service-provisioning support. You must be comfortable moving from technical design into implementation, troubleshooting and delivery where required.
A substantial hands-on software development background is essential. You should be able to demonstrate deep technical knowledge through solutions you have personally built and delivered.
Key responsibilities
- Define and implement cloud architecture across Azure and GCP.
- Support the migration of applications and services into cloud environments.
- Assess workloads and define appropriate cloud migration and modernisation patterns.
- Evaluate and align PaaS and SaaS choices with business and technical requirements.
- Produce practical high-level and low-level designs that engineering teams can implement.
- Build prototypes and contribute directly to technical implementation where required.
- Support cloud service provisioning, environment configuration and deployment activities.
- Work closely with software, platform and infrastructure engineers to resolve complex technical issues.
- Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, supportable and operationally sustainable.
- Communicate architectural decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A strong career foundation in hands-on software development.
- Recent experience combining Cloud Architecture with practical engineering delivery.
- Strong technical knowledge of both Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience delivering cloud migration or application-modernisation programmes.
- Practical experience with cloud platform engineering and service provisioning.
- Strong understanding of PaaS, SaaS and cloud-native architectural patterns.
- Experience with application integration, APIs, CI/CD and automated deployment.
- Ability to discuss technical decisions in depth and provide clear evidence of personally delivered outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder communication and documentation skills.
- Infrastructure-as-code and automated cloud provisioning.
- Multi-cloud architecture within a complex enterprise environment.
- Cloud security, identity, networking and operational resilience.
- Experience working within a regulated organisation.
