We are looking for a Windows Infrastructure SME to support a legacy estate spanning Windows Server 2003 and 2012 alongside Windows XP endpoints. This is a hands-on technical role covering day-to-day support, stabilisation and [migration/consolidation/decommission] activity across core infrastructure services.
You will be the escalation point for domain, network and messaging issues in an environment where modern tooling is not always available, so depth of legacy platform knowledge matters more than breadth of current-generation certification.
Essential skills
- Active Directory and Domain Services: design, administration, troubleshooting, GPO, DNS/DHCP
- Core networking: routing, switching, firewall rules, VLANs, network troubleshooting to packet level
- Mail servers and SMTP relays: configuration, routing, queue management, transport troubleshooting
- SQL Server: administration, backup/restore, performance troubleshooting, patching
- Scripting for automation and estate management (PowerShell, VBScript, batch)
- Demonstrable production experience with Windows Server 2003 and 2012
- Windows XP support and administration in a managed estate
- Experience migrating or decommissioning end-of-life Windows platforms
- Prior work in central government / secure environments
- Understanding of working within accredited or air-gapped networks
