We have a requirement for a Server & Cloud Engineer to join an established IT function, supporting a hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premise and cloud environments.
You will play a key role in ensuring high availability, security, and performance across server and cloud platforms, working within a 3rd line support environment and collaborating with network and security teams.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on Azure, Microsoft 365, server infrastructure, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering
- Design, implement, and maintain server and cloud infrastructure
- Manage hybrid environments across on-prem and cloud platforms
- Administer server, storage, and virtualisation technologies
- Ensure systems are secure, patched, and aligned with best practice
- Provide 3rd line support for incidents, problems, and service requests
- Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and system issues
- Support IT service desk escalations and deliver timely resolutions
- Identify trends and recommend service improvements
- Monitor infrastructure using tools (e.g. SolarWinds or similar)
- Proactively manage availability, performance, and capacity
- Ensure effective alerting and incident response
- Implement and maintain security standards and controls
- Apply patching, firmware updates, and access controls
- Work with security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and risks
- Ensure compliance with security policies and best practice
- Support delivery of infrastructure projects and enhancements
- Contribute to solution design, product selection, and implementation
- Develop and maintain technical documentation
- Work closely with network, security, and data teams
- Engage with stakeholders across the business
- Participate in out-of-hours support/on-call rota
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365
- Experience supporting and managing server infrastructure
- Knowledge of virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware)
- Solid understanding of server architecture (Windows Server, DNS, DHCP, storage)
- Experience working in a 3rd line support environment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Experience working within an ITIL framework
- Knowledge of Active Directory (Group Policy, OU structure, security groups)
- Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN)
- Relevant certifications (e.g. MCSA, MCSE, Azure)
- Experience contributing to infrastructure design or architecture
- NPPV3 clearance preferred
- Eligibility/willingness to undergo security clearance
