HR Compliance & Audit Lead
Northampton- Hybrid
Salary- Up to £50,000 per annum
 
This role ensures the HR function consistently meets audit and compliance standards while proactively managing risk and driving continuous improvement. Although the role has no direct reports, it requires strong influencing skills and the ability to build credibility with senior stakeholders up to Director and C-suite level.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver an annual HR audit calendar covering internal and external requirements.
  • Partner with Legal, Audit and Compliance teams to clarify responsibilities and ensure audit readiness.
  • Monitor compliance performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Act as Policy Guardian, ensuring HR policies remain compliant with legislative changes.
  • Support governance reporting requirements (e.g. whistleblowing, modern slavery, risk committees).
  • Maintain the People Risk Register, identifying vulnerabilities and driving mitigation actions.
  • Act as the HR lead for GDPR and data protection compliance.
  • Embed privacy-by-design principles across HR systems and processes.
  • Regularly audit system access to ensure appropriate data security controls.
  • Identify root causes of errors and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Develop frameworks to ensure key decisions are recorded and audit trails maintained.
  • Improve processes through system enhancements, education and procedural updates.
  • Provide monthly audit performance reporting to HR Services teams.
  • Deliver quarterly compliance updates to HR leadership.
  • Build effective relationships with Payroll, Finance, Reward, Technology and HR teams.
  • Influence stakeholders at senior leadership level.
  • Coach HR colleagues to embed compliance and audit best practice.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, governance and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Experience managing audits and HR compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of GDPR and HR data protection requirements.
  • Knowledge of HR processes and payroll activities within a regulated environment.
  • Understanding of legislative change and policy compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience improving processes and developing operating procedures.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • High integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Highly organised, proactive and adaptable.
  • Degree or professional qualification (e.g. CIPD) or equivalent.
  • Experience working within a regulated, customer-focused environment.
